So, the Answer is: The instrument you here being played is the Theremin. ( modified a bit and played close-up )
The Theremin is the first electric/electronic musical instrument. Still a Mystery - Less than1% of people have heard it live.
You play it by ' waving your hands ' around antennas attached to the body of the instrument with circuits inside.
The instrument is about a hundred years old from its concept with the first few weird sounds coming from " the Ether ".
They didn't know what it was; along with Edison's Bells, these early dudes were getting sounds from nothing ?
From the the air, outer space, the ether, heaven, maybe other dimensions.
Yeah it's a magnetic field activity - but where's the sound coming from they first thought - And it sounded mysterious too!
Meanwhile - vaudeville, rag-time, boogie-woogie, western swing, blues, and jass too outside the laboratory late at night!
You had traveling roadshows, jukes, clubs, carnivals, theatres, opries - all kinds of new music - things were happening!
As we know it, the Theremin was actually played in classic symphony arrangements and established entertainment.
But, You wonder if someone, somewhere, got ahold of a theremin and played something else cool, - it's a mystery
Hawaiian Guitar, Bottle-Neck, Knife-Edge Slide; DiddlyBows; even Saws were played with some sounds resembling a Theremin
The Theremin (or the Aetherphone) was developed by Leon Theremin (1896 - 1993 ) and got patented in 1928.
